The project you see above is a paint recycling initiative, at Guildford community recycling centre. This only began in late 2021 but they have already been shortlisted for a National Recycling Award.
Around 55 million litres of paint are wasted in the UK each year, while residents meet the increasing cost of buying new. The paint reuse shop helps to address both issues and if you need paint, this is free.
A donation to Macmillan Cancer Support is requested, with more than £2,000 raised to date. The incoming paint has also been used on a range of community projects, a further benefit for the county.
The shop has saved over 15,000 litres of paint from disposal. An eco-friendly plan, which reduces replacement impact on the environment.
Recycling Options
Apart from the paint shop, there are a number of reuse shops at local recycling centres, offering pre-owned items for your home and garden.
Surrey County Council provide a web section to help with recycling. A search tool is included, to show what to do with waste of all types, along with a recycling game and information on where your waste goes.
You can download their app from Google Play, or the App Store, to find out how to recycle, compost or properly dispose of unwanted items. Or read more on the high level of performance for recycling in Surrey
At Moving Time
Moving home is a time when unwanted, or forgotten items surface, with a trip to a local charity shop part of the plan. Adding in the recycyling centre will help, your possessions may still be used again, or at least disposed of safely.
A wide range of materials, or organic waste will be accepted and staff at the centres tend to be helpful. Above all, this is the best way to protect the environment we all share and to avoid any dangers the items hold.
We carry out a fair number of removals in Guildford and will be recommending the paint shop. Wherever you are, using recycling centres is worth the time.
